Hi, My Name is Grayce olsen.
ABOUT ME
Hi! I’m Grayce Olsen, a junior at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, studying Advertising and Public Relations with a passion for creative storytelling, branding, and connecting with people through digital media.
Currently, I work as a Brand Design Specialist at Beautiful Soul Spa Suites, where I design both digital and print advertising materials, manage promotional content, and create branded menus to strengthen client relationships. I also manage social media content for The Waterfall Lounge, where I develop strategy-driven posts, track engagement, and write copy that aligns with brand voice and tone.
Through both my coursework and hands-on experience, I’ve built a strong foundation in content creation, design strategy, and AP Style writing, using tools like Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Express on Mac. Whether I’m crafting a brand story or building a visual campaign, I love turning creative ideas into meaningful content that connects with people.
Outside of work and school, I find inspiration in everyday moments—working out, walking my dogs, cooking new recipes, or playing tennis. I love discovering new restaurants and spending time with friends and family, which always keeps my creativity flowing. I’m excited to continue growing in the ADPR world and creating work that inspires, engages, and leaves a lasting impression.

Learning Letter
Throughout this semester in ADPR 221: Strategic Writing, I have grown exponentially as a writer in every way possible. This course pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me develop skills that I know will be valuable in my future career in advertising and public relations. Looking back at all of the different projects we completed this semester, I can confidently say that each one challenged me to think more critically, write more clearly, and communicate more strategically.
Each assignment taught me something new. Starting with the creative brief, I learned the importance of research, strategy, and goal-setting before even beginning the creative process. Writing a clear, targeted brief showed me how much work happens behind the scenes before a single ad or campaign is even created. This project helped me understand that good writing for advertising and PR doesn’t just happen — it’s the result of strong planning and a deep understanding of the audience.
The print ad project showed me how important it is to be concise and impactful with just a few words. Crafting a print ad that grabs attention and delivers a message in such a short space was much harder than I expected, but it helped me realize how powerful a few strong words and visuals can be when used correctly.
The radio/TV ad project taught me how to write for the ear rather than the eye. I learned how important pacing, tone, and rhythm are when writing for broadcast media. This project made me appreciate how different types of writing require completely different techniques, depending on where and how the audience will encounter the message.
The social media advertising project was one of my favorites because it felt so connected to real-world skills. I learned how to write copy that is fast, catchy, and optimized for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter). Writing for social media showed me that even though the posts are short, they still require a full strategic plan behind them.
The news release and pitch/media list assignments pushed me to be professional and precise. I learned how to structure news in a way that grabs the attention of reporters and fits journalistic standards. Writing pitches also taught me the importance of personalization and relationship-building in public relations.
The blog post project showed me how to write in a more conversational, storytelling style while still staying professional. I realized that blog writing can build brand personality while informing or entertaining readers. Meanwhile, the feature story assignment allowed me to dive deeper into narrative writing and practice telling a story in a compelling, human-centered way.
Beyond the assignments themselves, building my portfolio on Wix and creating my LinkedIn page also helped me see the importance of personal branding. Through this class, I now have a collection of professional writing samples and a strong foundation to continue growing my portfolio as I move forward in my career.
Overall, this class has helped me grow exponentially as a strategic writer, creative thinker, and communicator. I feel more confident than ever in my ability to write for different platforms, audiences, and purposes. I am so grateful for everything I have learned in ADPR 221 and know that these skills will be essential as I pursue internships, jobs, and future opportunities in advertising and public relations.
Sincerely,
Grayce Olsen
